Pacer Softball Travels to Salem College

RALEIGH, NC--The William Peace University Softball team will travel to Winston-Salem for a Thursday afternoon game at 4:00 p.m. for a USA South double-header against the Spirits of Salem College.

This game was originally set to take place this past Sunday but was rescheduled due to rain. In their last match up, the Pacers fell in both games of a double-header to Pfeiffer University and now stand at (11-9) over all and (2-2) in the USA South play. Meanwhile the Spirits are coming off a Saturday split with Meredith College and also come into the matchup at (11-9) overall and are (4-2) in the USA South.

Mojica and Nemeth leading the Pacer bats: Alexa Nemeth comes in batting .417, to go along with  25 hits, and 16 RBI's. Nemeth is tied for 9th in the nation in hits and also is ranked in the top 25 in RBIs. Along with swinging a hot bat, Nemeth also has made 7 appearances in the circle for the Pacers and stands at two wins and two losses. Kristina Mojica has also been red hot at the plate for the Pacers and has managed to record a hit in every game this season. Mojica currently leads the team with a .431 batting avg., and also ranks in the top 20 in hits and RBIs in the nation.

Making Moves in the Circle: The pitching staff for the Pacers have had their fair share of success this season. They currently rank 5th in the nation in shutouts. In a six-game stretch last week the Pacer pitching staff only allowed 4 runs with only one of them being earned. Kelsey Durham and Danielle Hunt are tied for most wins on the season with four, while Alexa Nemeth sits at two wins. Freshmen hurler, Makenzie Ward is (1-0) on the season, to go along with three saves. As a staff they total 98 strikeouts, 8 complete games, and 131 innings pitched.

Scouting the Spirits: The Spirits come into Thursday night's contest at (11-9) overall and (4-2) in the USA South. Salem has split double-headers with Averett University, and Meredith College this season. The Spirits' pitching staff is led by first year pitcher Miranda Barker who holds a record of (5-3) and holds a 2.10 ERA.
