Raleigh, NC-- The William Peace Women's basketball team fell to crosstown rival Meredith College by a score of (66-64).
The Angels would jump in front early with Kimberly Schuh layup. Deja Umstead would answer right back with a long three pointer. DeJah Cheatham made back to back threes with 5:42 remaining in the first quarter to put the Pacers up (9-7). Mikayla Ray made a couple aggressive layups in the paint right before the end of the quarter to bring the Pacers within one. In the second quarter, Deja Umstead drained a three pointer to give the Pacers a (24-19).The Pacers extended the lead to 8 points with only 1:17 remaining in the first half. The Pacers shot 42.9% from behind the arc in the first half and were led by Deja Umstead who went 4-9 from three and ended the half with 12 points. William Peace would lead 31-26 at the half.
The second half started with turnovers from both teams. It began with little offensive scoring but that changed quickly. Mikayla Ray scored first for the Pacers and DeJah Cheatham scored soon after making the lead (38-33) in the third quarter. The Pacers would give up points in the paint allowing Meredith to take the lead with 1:11 remaining in the third quarter. From that point on, the Pacers would not take the lead again. Things got interesting in the last couple minutes of the game. Jayde Grant made a fast break layup that cut the lead to 4 points with 31 seconds remaining in the game. With 21 seconds remaining Meredith went 1-2 from the free throw line extending the lead to 4. DeJah Cheatham then hit a three pointer trailing by 4 to cut the lead to 1. After another Chandler Hines free throw, the Pacers would have the ball with under 10 seconds left down by 2. The Pacers would have two opportunities but would be unable to convert and Meredith would hold on for a 66-64 win.

The Pacers will be back in action Friday, February 9th as they take on Greensboro College on the road. William Peace beat Greensboro at home 64-47 on February 1st. Greensboro College holds a record of (17-6) and a (12-2) record in conference. The Pacers look to bounce back after a hard fought loss at Meredith.
