Misenheimer, NC--The William Peace University women's basketball team fell to Pfeiffer University (86-71) on February 4th, 2018. The Pacers now drop to an overall record of (4-16).
Shaniya Taylor would start the Pacers off with a jumper, giving them a (2-0) lead early in the first quarter. The Falcons would take over and go on a 10-point run to lead (12-3), when Jayde Grant and Mikayla Ray would cut the lead down to just 3 at the 4:38 mark. The Pacers and the Falcons would trade the lead back and forth in the final minutes of the first, but a shot from behind the arc by Deja Umstead at the buzzer would send the Pacers into the second with a (26-24) lead. In the second quarter, the Falcons took over offensively, going on a 13-point run to lead (48-32) at the 2:36 mark. Turnovers proved to be a problem, with WPU tallying 13 in the first half. The Pacers would head into halftime trailing (52-33).
DeJah Cheatham hit a shot from behind the arc to start the Pacers off in the third. WPU would go on an impressive 18-point run, starting with a layup by Shaniya Taylor at 6:32 and ending with a free throw by Deja Umstead with 23 seconds left in the quarter. Pfeiffer would add two in the last seconds, sending the Pacers into the fourth trailing (68-54). In the fourth, the Falcons started off with a 6-point run to lead (70-58), and would continue to hold the offensive advantage. Despite a last minute push from the Pacers, they would fall (86-71) to the Falcons.

Up next, the Pacers will face cross-town rivals Meredith College in conference play on Wednesday, February 7th. The 7:30 p.m. game will take place at Meredith, who currently holds an overall record of (5-17) and (5-8) record in the conference.
