William Peace Baseball Split Double Header and Take The Series

Cary, NC -- The William Peace University men's baseball team continued play against Southern Virginia University in a doubleheader on Saturday, February 3rd. The Pacers, who now improve to a record of (2-1), picked up a (6-5) win in the first game and a (4-3) loss in the second game.

Game One
Cameron High started off the first game for the Pacers, where they would get out to a (3-1) lead with doubles from Sean Finneran and Alec Allred.The Knights would take a (4-3) lead going into the bottom of the 2nd, but a hit to right field by Christian Dix would allow Kyle Cranmer to score and tie it up (4-4). The Knights would again get a (5-4) lead at the top of the third, which the Pacers wouldn't tie until the bottom of the sixth. Jayce Stephenson, Braxton Hamm, and Luke Drancsak finished out the game on the mound for the Pacers. The game would go on to extra innings, where Justin Torres would bring home Trey Hogan in the bottom of the 9th with a hit to right field to win the game (6-5).

Game Two
Ben Brann would step in for WPU to start off the second game, pitching the entire game. Brann would strike out 8 and allowed 9 hits in 7 innings of work. The Knights would maintain a (4-0) lead until the sixth inning, when the Pacers would add three to make the score (4-3). Christian Dix would score on a passed ball, while Gavin Wheeler would bring home Nathan Holt and Alec Allred on a single from left field. WPU was unable to add any more offense in the 7th inning, enabling SVU to take a (4-3) win.
 

THE BREAK DOWN

  • In the first game, the Pacers tallied 13 hits in comparison  to SVU's 7.

  • Alec Allred led WPU offensively, hitting 3 for 4 with 3 RBIs in game one.

  • Sean Finneran led the Pacers in the field in game one with 10 putouts, while Jake Norris had 8 in game two.

FOR THE FOES

  • Jordan Keefer led SVU in the second game with 10 putouts.

  • Jonathan Soto started the second game for the Knights, notching 9 strikeouts and only allowing one run.

  • Ryan Saunders led the Knights offensively with a .750 on base percentage.

 

The Pacers will now head to Brevard College for a doubleheader on February 10th.
