Pacers Fall to Monarchs in Final Game of Conference Series

FAYETTEVILLE, NC--- The William Peace University baseball team fell to conference opponent, Methodist University on Sunday afternoon. The Monarchs took the series (3-0) to open up conference play.

The Pacers started off the first inning with a leadoff single by Justin Torres. Torres would later get picked off at first to send the Pacers into the field.The Pacer defense shut down the Monarchs with a quick one two three inning in the bottom of the first. In the second inning, the Pacers would not put any hits on the board but Methodist scored early when the Monarchs' Jacob Austin singled bringing home Will May. The Monarchs would take the lead (1-0) heading into the third inning. MU's Ethan Carmack singled to lead off the third inning and would advance to second with a stolen base. Carmack would then score on a throwing error by the Pacers. Alex Kachler reached on a fielder's choice which scored Matthias Carter bringing the Monarch lead to 3-0. Matthias Carter singled in the bottom of the fifth inning giving the Monarchs a 4-0 lead. The Methodist offense continued to impress when they tacked on five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. The Monarchs would close the game with a 9-0 victory over the Pacers.

WHAT'S NEXT

The William Peace University baseball team will be back in action for a weekend series on March 2, at home. The Pacers will take on Piedmont College who has a combined record of (6-5) and are on a 3 game win streak.
