Pacers Fall in Game One of Series With Piedmont

CARY, NC -- The William Peace University baseball team fell to the Lions of Piedmont College in the first of three games this weekend on Friday, March 3. Piedmont College takes the first game of the series by a score of 11-2.

In the top of the first inning, Piedmont College put pressure on Derek Jackson and the Pacer defense. With bases loaded and two outs, Derek Jackson struck out Cameron Johnson to end the first inning with three left on base. William Peace University jumped on the scoreboard first beginning with walks from Christian Dix and Alec Allred to put runners in scoring position. Michael Sterne doubled to left field scoring Dix. The Pacers took a 1-0 lead going into the top of the second. In the top of the second the Lions offense came alive. Back to back walks led to a base hit by Tyler Sheley which scored Tyler Burdette. Later in the inning, Piedmont had the bases loaded and the Lions' Noah Hetherly hit one deep into right center for a two RBI triple.The Lions would take a 5-1 lead. Tyler Sheley added another RBI in the top of the third inning with two outs. Piedmont led 6-1 heading into the fourth inning.

The Pacers would give up one run in the fourth, fifth, and three runs in the seventh and would see four pitching changes. Piedmont College had ten stolen bases in the game. In the bottom of the seventh, the Pacers would score their second and final run of the game off of single RBI hit by Alec Allred to score Kyle Cranmer. The Pacers would fall 11-2 in game one.

THE BREAKDOWN
