WPU Baseball Falls in Game One of Series Against Methodist

Raleigh, NC--- The William Peace University baseball team faced the Methodist Monarchs on Friday evening in their first game of their three-day series. The Pacers were defeated 9-4.

Derek Jackson (3-1) would get the start on the mound for the Pacers and would pitch 3.1 innings. The Pacers would give up two runs in the bottom of the first inning and another run in the bottom of the third when Methodist's Tucker Criswell doubled to left field. In the top of the fourth Easton Payton would reach on a fielding error by the Monarch third basemen. Payton would move into scoring position as he stole second. After a Justin Torres ground ball that moved Payton to third, Alec Allred would ground to third base bringing Easton Payton home. The Pacers would give up six runs in the fourth inning giving the Monarchs a (9-1) lead.

The Pacers picked up the offense in the eighth inning when Mikey Anerton would  reach after a single to right field. Anerton would advance to second on a wild pitch. Gavin Wheeler would keep the inning going for the Pacers with a single down the middle to centerfield. With runners on the corners, Nathan Holt doubled to left center driving in Mikey Anerton. Easton Payton followed with a two RBI double to left center bringing in Wheeler and Holt making the score (9-4). In the top of the ninth, the Monarchs would hold the Pacers and end the game (9-4).

  • Alex Kachler went 3-4 at the plate to score two runs.
  • Jacob Austin went 3-5 with one RBI.
  • Tyler Brown got the win on the mound for the Monarchs, pitching seven innings and throwing four strike outs.
