Softball Opens Spring Season with Home Field Advantage Against Quakers

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The William Peace University softball team opens up their regular season on Sunday, February 18, against the Quakers of Guilford College. Taking home field advantage, the Pacers will begin their afternoon double-header at 1:00 p.m.

The Pacers finished their 2017 season going (21-22) overall and (12-10) in the USA South Conference. In last year's match-up against the Quakers, the Pacers split the series in Greensboro (1-1), defeating Guilford (5-3) in the first game and falling (0-8) in the second game. The Pacers welcome back 11 returners including three seniors, Heather McLean, Katelyn McLamb, and Amanda Ludlum. Heather McLean lead the team last season with a .434 batting average, while tallying 10 home runs on the season. McLean was named 2nd Team All-State, NFPCA DIII All-Region Team, as well as First Team All-Conference for the USA South.

The Pacers also welcome in 12 newcomers, Hayley Waddell, Lauren Conway, Danielle Hunt, Kristina Mojica, Nadia Blevins, Alexa Nemeth, Olivia Oates, Skylar Conklin, Makenzie Ward, Mackenzie Allison, Summer Jacobs, and Elizabeth Kaspala.

The Student Athlete Advisory Committee will be sponsoring a raffle giveaway, free to all students who arrive to the game with their Pacer Card. Students may enter for a chance to win free Carolina Hurricanes tickets for the WPU Hockey Night on February 23, when the Hurricanes face the Penguins!
