Camels Pull Away In Second Half to Top Pacers

BUIES CREEK, NC -- The William Peace University women's basketball team fell to the Campbell University Camels in their mid-week exhibition match, 36-65. 

The Pacers would take an early lead after a three-point play from Mikayla Ray within the first minute of the game. Khadijah Daniels would further that lead to a 5-2 score with 7:49 left on the clock for the quarter.

The Pacers and Camels would trade baskets and the lead until about five minutes left in the quarter. With the Camels leading by one, Khadijah Daniels scored the last two points of the quarter off two free throws and would tie the score at 15 each.

The second quarter would be low scoring as both teams would both score in the single digits.  The Camels would take the lead in the second quarter thanks to a 3-pointer from Micaila Coleman. Coleman's three would be the start of a 9-4 run for the Camels and it would extend their lead to five.
 

Figures at the Half:

  • Pacers were behind 19-24 at halftime.

  • The Pacers tallied 13 rebounds in the first half.

  • Khadijah Daniels led the team in points with 6.

 

The Pacers would burst out of the gate in the start of the second half with a quick 5-1 run to bring the Pacers within one at 24-25.

The Camels would pull away in the third quarter thanks to a 17-2 run to finish the third quarter. The Pacers would trail 28-42 at the end of the third quarter.

The Pacer offense would not be able to get back going in the final quarter, and the Camels would continue to pull away.  The Camels would score 23 points to the Pacers' 8. The final score would read 36-65 in favor of the Camels.

 

The Recap:

  • Khadijah Daniels finished with 6 points and 8 rebounds.

  • Mariah Ballen led the Pacers with 9 points.

  • The Pacers would finish with 20 points in the paint.

The Foes:

  • Bolden led the Camels with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

  • The Camels finished with 41 points off the bench.

  • The Camels shot 33.8% from the field.

 

What's Next?

The William Peace University women's basketball team will face off against North Carolina Wesleyan College on, Friday, December 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. in Rocky Mount, NC.
