Raleigh,NC-- The William Peace University Women's Basketball team defeated the Shaw University Bears by a score of (80-79) in a thriller.
The Pacers would go down early in the game as the Bears would start the game on a 12-0 run led by Vanessa Davis who would hit two threes early on for the Bears. The Bear's lead would be (18-7) going into the second quarter as Tahniyah Sweatt would hit two from the line At the start of the second quarter, Mikayla Ray would score the Pacers first six points of the quarter. The Pacers would go on a (12-6) run and come within six points of the Bears. Late in the second quarter Eva Holloway and Khadijah Daniels would be sparks for the Pacers scoring eight of the Pacer's last eleven points. The Pacers would trail (29-34) at the half.
To start the Second half Mikayla Ray would lead the Pacers as she scored seven of the first eleven points of the quarter for the Pacers. Timely Shooting from behind the arc from Shania Springer would bring the Pacers within two points of the Bears with the Pacers trailing (45-47). With time expiring in the the third quarter Springer would again come in clutch for the Pacers and hit from behind the arc to bring the Pacers within one at (53-54). The Pacers would take their first lead of the game as Mariah Ballen would convert a layup to make it (54-53) in favor of the Pacers. WPU would extend their lead to (63-58) thanks to a (8-2) run led by  Khadijah Daniels The action would pick up as both teams would trade baskets with the Pacers holding onto to a slim lead. With 18 seconds remaining the lead would change hands on three different occasions. With three seconds left Macy Keen would hit a layup to put the Bears out in front (72-71). After a timeout the Pacers would have an inbounds after which the Pacers would be awarded two free-throws due to a technical foul. With the Pacers down one Shania Springer would set to the line and convert a one of two to send the game into overtime tied at 72. The overtime would be quite the thriller as the lead changed four times in the five minute period. Mikayla Ray would again come up big for the Pacers as she would score the Pacer's last four points with her last shot being the game winner with five seconds left. The Bears would have one last opportunity to win but the Pacers defense would hold strong to seal a historic win for the Women's basketball program.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Pacers now (2-3) will open up conference play on Friday against Methodist University who come into the matchup at (1-4). Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00PM in the Hermann Athletic Center.
