Women's Basketball Falls to Eagles in Hyatt Place Tip-off

FREDERICKSBURG, VA -- The  William Peace Women's Basketball fell to University of Mary Washington's Eagles (43-73) in the Hyatt Place Tip-off Tournament .

The two teams were pretty evenly matched during the first quarter. The Pacers would pull out in front early to a (9-4) lead a little over 5 minutes into the first quarter, thanks to a Shania Springer three pointer. Shania Springer would start out leading the Pacers  5 points in the first 10 minutes of the game. At the end of the first quarter, the score was (11-14) as the Eagles would hit a late three to take the lead. The second quarter would bring more of the same - back and forth baskets made by each team. The Eagles would start the second quarter with a quick layup from Emily Thompson to extend their lead to (11-16). From their the Pacers would use an 8 to 2 run to take the lead at (19-18). Khadijah Daniels would be a spark early on for the Pacers as she would have 8 first half points. Erika Carter would answer right back from the Eagles as she would score all eight points in an 8 to 2 run for the Eagles with under four minutes left in the second quarter. The Pacers would close out the quarter with two free-throws to cut the Eagles lead to six. The Pacers would go into halftime trailing (28-34).

The Second half would be struggle for the Pacers as they would be held to shooting 21% from the field. Turnovers would hamper the Pacers as the Eagles would score 16 points off turnovers. Eva Holloway would lead the Pacers in the second half with 6 points off the bench. The Eagles would use a 23 point third quarter to pull away down the stretch from the Pacers.  The Pacers would be unable to cut the Eagles lead and would fall (43-73).


The Recap:

  • Khadijah Daniels would lead the Pacers with 10 points 8 rebounds

  • The Pacers would went 9-10 from the line

  • Eva Holloway would finish with 8 points and 2 rebounds.


The Foes:

  • Erika Carter with a game high 23 points as well as a game high 13 rebounds.

  • Emily Thompson would finish with 19 points on 4 of 5 shooting from behind the arc.

 

What's Next: The Pacers will have a quick turnaround and play Transylvania  University in their second game of the Hyatt Place Tip-off Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00PM in Fredericksburg,VA on the Campus of the University of Mary Washington.
