Volleyball Sweeps Battling Bishops in Conference Play

Rocky Mount, NC--- The William Peace University volleyball team hit the road following a two-win road trip at Methodist University over the weekend. The Pacers took on North Carolina Wesleyan College in a conference match-up, where they swept the Bishops 3-0.

The William Peace offense made a quick presence in their opening set. Brienna Laskowski opened the game with three kills. As the set charged along, the offense started to spread out with kills from Sha'Nice Frazier, Mya Parks, and McLendyn Weathersby while the defense held the NC Wesleyan offense to only six points. The offense would slow down when the Pacers hit 20 points as the Bishops came within six points down the stretch. McLendyn Weathersby would get the last kill to seal the deal for the Pacers to take a one set lead (25-18).

Set two began with a back and forth flow for the first several points. The Pacers would not let NC Wesleyan take any lead as Jasmine Smith and Brienna Laskowski's kills gave the Pacers a three point lead. Brienna Laskowski also had back to back service ace's and the Pacers went on a 3-0 run. Much like the first set, the NC Wesleyan offense would gain some ground but the Pacer defense shut them down late. Set two ended with a Pacer win (25-15).

Looking to avoid the sweep, the third set produced a closer match-up as the Battling Bishops lived up to their name as a team who "battles." The Bishops would take their first lead of the night after big hits from Sydney Barnwell and Hannah Thrasher. Sha'Nice Frazier had two big kills that would tie the game at eight. A few mistakes by the NC Wesleyan offense would give the Pacers a 12-10 lead. Brienna Laskowski led the Pacer offense down the stretch with four kills as they completed the sweep (25-23).
