Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball Earns Co-Regular Season Champion Title With Sweep Over Methodist and Greensboro

Raleigh---- The William Peace University volleyball team was back in action on October 27 following a big win versus Meredith. The Pacers swept both Methodist and Greensboro to earn the title of Co-Regular Season Champion of the East Division of the USA South. This marks the first time since the institution went to co-ed that an athletic team has earned this title.

GAME 1 V. GREENSBORO

The Pacers started strong on offense with quick kills from Brienna Laskowski and Sha'Nice Frazier. William Peace would go on a 9-0 run led by Brienna Laskowski with three kills on that run. McLendyn Weathersby had a big hit late in the first set assisted by Emily Braxton to put the Pacers up (20-7). Mya Parks sealed the deal in set one with a kill giving the Pacers the dominant win in set one (23-8).

The momentum from set one would carry over into set two. The offense did not skip a beat. Brienna Laskowski kept the ball rolling with early kills to take the lead early in set two. Back to back kills by Sha'Nice Frazier assisted by Sarah Scott extended the Pacer lead late in the set (21-12). McLendyn Weathersby would sneak a hit past the Greensboro defense to win set two (25-15).

Greensboro came out swinging in the third set, keeping a back-and-forth momentum with the Pacers. Greensboro would begin to distance themselves from the Pacers led by kills from Sarah Egbers. The Pacers would climb their way back and would tie the game at twenty. Mya Parks came up big with three kills to cap off the sweep in game one (25-23).

The Recap: The Foes:
  • Sarah Egbers led the Pride with 7 kills.
  • Tori Belcher had 6 kills and 12 digs.

GAME 2 V. METHODIST

The Pacers looked to keep the winning streak alive at home in the second game versus rival Methodist. With momentum from game one, Brienna Laskowski got the Pacers offense going again. William Peace continued to put pressure on the Monarchs defense and led for the entire first set. McLendyn Weathersby and Sha'Nice Frazier also had big hits in the first set. Looking to share the conference lead with Meredith College, they started out in a big way with the first set win.

The only lead the Monarchs had in the second set was the first point. WPU's offense was relentless and the defense would not allow any big runs by the tall Monarch front row. Mya Parks and Brienna Laskowski both continued putting up kills and led the Pacers to a (25-18) set two win. Set three started off with a four nothing run by the Pacers. Brienna Laskowski also had back-to-back kills during this run. Methodist would keep this set close but the Pacers would come out on top with a (25-19) sweep. This win caps off a (23-5) season and puts them in great position for the playoffs.

The Recap: The Foes:
  • Megan Andrews led the Monarchs with 11 kills and 12 points.
  • Brittany Ter Meer tallied 10 kills on 22 attempts.

The William Peace University volleyball team will be back in action at home on Tuesday, October 30 at 7 P.M. With tonight's win, the Pacers share the USA South Conference lead with Meredith and will host the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament. Stay tuned for more updates.
