Volleyball Remains Undefeated at Home with Sweep Over Angels

Raleigh, NC -- The William Peace University women's volleyball team was back in action at home on Thursday, October 25. They took on cross-town rival, Meredith College who previously swept the Pacers down the street on their homecourt. Both teams entered the game at the top of the USA South division. Meredith now has an overall record of (20-4) and the Pacers are undefeated at home and are (21-5).

Undefeated at the Herm

William Peace entered the game with high hopes of taking down the Angels of Meredith College. Early in the first set, it was a back and forth showdown. Meredith took the early (2-0) lead because of Caroline Corley's kill and a defensive mistake by the Pacers. The lead would not last long for Meredith and McLendyn Weathersby would put the first Pacer point on the board. Brienna Laskowski and Mya Parks got the offense rolling. In the final points of the first set, the score was 22-20 in favor of the Pacers but Brienna Laskowski and Mya Parks sealed the deal to take set one.

Set two was much of the same early and the Pacer crowd was as loud as ever. Caroline Corey continued to be an offensive threat for Meredith. McLendyn Weathersby was on fire in set two with early kills to give the Pacers the lead. Meredith tied the game at 14 with a big kill from Cathy Delano. The score was close all the way to the finish. Sha'Nice Frazier and Brienna Laskowski kept the offense rolling to victory, 25-22.

"Throughout the week and before the match we talked a lot about being mentally tough and over coming adversity quickly while playing the same game we've played all season even though the stakes are higher. We played our game and we played it confidentially.  I could not be more proud of our entire team. We had the support from our entire WPU community which made playing confidently that much easier," shared Barringer. "Thank you to our Pacer Nation for coming out to support and being vocal the entire match."

Looking for the revenge sweep, Pacer Nation was on their feet. Sha'Nice Frazier seemed to continuously give boosts to the offense with timely kills. The Pacers led the entire third set and would cap off the impressive home sweep with a final 25-16 set win.

The Recap: The Foes;
  • Caroline Corey and Ally Copenhaver shared the team lead with 9 kills
  • Haley Reeg and Caroline Corey both had 9 kills
  • Avery Bowman collected 26 assists
