Men's Soccer Ties with Monarchs in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, NC --  The William Peace University men's soccer team finished in a 2-2 draw with the Monarchs of Methodist University Saturday night. The Pacers now post an 8-2-5 record overall and a 6-1-3 record in conference play.

The first half jumped out to a quick start for the Monarchs as Raul Martin scored an early goal in the eighth minute of play. The Pacers would dominate the offense throughout the majority of the first half and would take nine shots with one shot on goal in the first. The Pacers would head into halftime trailing, 1-0.

The Pacer offense connected early in the second half, as Ivan Ponce notched his 12th goal of the season in the 51st minute to tie the game 1-1. Both teams would share possessions throughout the second half with the Pacer defense eliminating several close calls for the the Monarchs. Jorge Aguilar would find Aaron Latigue on a corner kick for Latigue to give the Pacers the lead, 2-1 (70'). With just seconds ticking off the clock before the end of regulation, the Monarchs would head down-field for Tyler Hilbert to find the back of the net with just 30 seconds remaining, to tie the game, 2-2.

In the first overtime, the Monarchs took two shots with one being blocked by the Pacer defense and the other shooting high over the goal. With the score remaining 2-2, the Pacers and Monarchs headed into the second over time. The Monarchs took six shots in the second overtime period but would not connect on any shots, and the game would end in a 2-2 tie.
