Staunton, VA-- The William Peace University women's basketball team picked up their second conference win of the year over Mary Baldwin University, 71-55. This win brings the Pacers to (2-6) overall and (2-1) in USA South play.
Mikayla Ray had an afternoon to remember as she notched her sixth double-double of the season with 28 points and a new school record of 22 rebounds. Ray had previously tied the record with a 21 rebound performance against Salem College earlier this season. The stats finished with nearly a triple-double for Ray as she also finished the night with 9 steals which is another new school record. The record was previously 8 and was held by former Pacer, Ka'la Jordan.
The Pacers started the first quarter with a 5-0 run with a three pointer from Shaniya Taylor, followed by a pair of free throws from Mikayla Ray.The rest of the first half was a filled without more pressure fro my the Mary Baldwin defense, causing the Pacers turning the ball over 13 times, while Mary Baldwin had 17 Turnovers.
William Peace went into the second half trailing 32-35. In the second half the Pacers would trail for most of the third quarter before a three pointer from Mikayla Ray put the Pacers ahead 48-46 heading into the fourth quarter.
At the start of the fourth quarter Mary Baldwin's Kemper Snyder would tie things up at 48-48. DeJah Cheatham would answer right back with a three pointer and the Pacers would not trail again for the remainder of the game. Cheatham would finish with 14 points, while Deja Umstead and Jayde Grant finished with 13 and 10 points respectfully.  Shaniya Taylor also turned in a solid performance for the Pacers finishing with 6 points, 6 boards, and 5 steals.

The Pacers will have quick turnaround and matchup against Averett University (VA) tomorrow, January 7th in another USA South Conference matchup. The 1:00 p.m game will take place in Danville, Virginia. The Cougars are coming off an 86-65 win over Meredith College and come into the matchup (6-5) overall and (3-1) in the USA South.
