Pacers Drop Conference Match-up To Bishops

Rocky Mount, NC--The William Peace University Men's Basketball team fell on the road versus the NC Wesleyan Battling Bishops 85-70. William Peace now falls to an overall record of 4-13 overall and 2-7 in conference play. 

Sam Arnold would put the Pacers on the board with an early three pointer from deep. William Peace started the game on a 5-0 run and looked very sharp on the defensive side of the ball. Sam Arnold and Trey Bryant played physical defense on NC Wesleyan's big man AJ Frye. Smith Gupton led all scorers at the half with 8 points, Camden Ferguson followed with 7, and Sam Arnold with 5 points. Both teams were plagued by turnovers with 12 each. The Battling Bishops scored 14 points off William Peace turnovers in the first. The Pacers led the whole half until 44 seconds left in the first half when AJ Frye put the Bishops ahead with two shots from the charity stripe. NC Wesleyan went into the locker room leading 29-26.

In the second half, Sam Arnold  hit a jumper 14 seconds into the second.The Bishops would answer right back with a jumper from AJ Frye. Frye's layup would be the beginning of an 8-0 run by the Bishops.  Trey Bryant was a consistent threat for the Pacers in the second as well as Tyson Sellers who finished the night with 16 points all of which came in the second half. The Pacers were defended very strong in the second half and struggled to find good shots from the field. With (5:54) remaining in the game, the Pacers trailed by 16 points but seemed to find a groove. The Bishops would go on and widen the lead and. The Bishops did not trail at all in the second. Trey Bryant fought hard all night against AJ Frye and put up 14 points and 8 rebounds.The majority of the Bishop's points came from down in the paint as they shot 44% from the field and 16.7% from the three point line. The William Peace Pacers could not get shots to drop tonight as they finished the night shooting 38.5% from the field and 29.3% from long range. Although the Pacers showed glimpses of a comeback, the Bishops walked away with the 85-70 win.

 

The Break Down

  • -Tyson Sellers led the Pacer scoring with 16 points going 5-13 from the field and 4-9 from the three point line.

  • Trey Bryant battled in the paint scoring 14 grabbing 8 boards

  • Camden Ferguson scored 13 points

  • Smith Gupton was 3-10 from behind the three point line scoring 11

  • Sam Arnold hauled in a team high 9 rebounds.

 

For the Foes

  • Adrian Moore put up 21 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assists. His double double led the Bishops to a home win.

  • AJ Frye was 6-8 from the floor with 14 points

  • Ricardo Bullock had 13 points.

 

Pacers face Pfeiffer University January 31 at 7:30pm at home. Pfeiffer comes to the Hermann Center with an overall record of 12-2. The Pacer have already faced Pfeiffer once this season resulting in a 106-63 loss for WPU.
