Ferguson's Historic Game Leads Pacers To Victory Over Brevard

Brevard, NC -- The William Peace University men's basketball team went on the road to Brevard, NC and picked up a 86-72 victory over the Tornadoes of Brevard College.

The Pacers could not miss in the first half. The Pacers shot 58.8% from the field and 52.9% from three point range. Camden Ferguson led all scorers in the first half with 18 points, all from behind the three point line. Ferguson hit back to back to back three pointers in the first giving the Pacers a 14 point lead with 2:30 remaining in the first. Trey Bryant and Tyson Sellers contributed 10 points each in the first half. William Peace did not trail at all in the first half.  Brevard would remain within range of the lead shooting 40.7% from the field and 41.2% from three. Pacer rebounding has improved in recent games and it continued today as WPU out-rebounded the Tornados 21-12 in the first. The Pacers would go into the locker room up 51-39 after the first half.

Brevard came out strong with a 5-0 run in the second half. The Pacers missed the first two shots they put up coming out of the locker room, but a three from Smith Gupton would get the Pacers back on track. Levi Lamb for the Tornados kept the lead close throughout the half especially with 11:35 to go, when he cut the lead to 6. That would be the closest Brevard came to the lead due to the Pacers sharp shooting all afternoon. Ferguson's shooting was unstoppable as he ended the game with a record-breaking 33 points. Brevard went on a 9-0 run with 6:30 left in the second half but this would be the last run they would have for the remainder of the game. William Peace rebounding and free throw shooting led to an offensive advantage and the Pacers came out on top 86-72. 

The Breakdown

  • Camden Ferguson was the story of the game with 33 points all from behind the three-point line. He also had six rebounds in his 32 minutes on the floor. He broke the program record with his 11 3-pointers and scoring record of 33 points. 
  • Tyson Sellers continues to put up big numbers with 18 points and 6 assists.
  • Trey Bryant scored 12 points and had 4 rebounds.

The Foes

  • Levi Lamb led the Tornados with 21 points and a couple clutch three pointers.

  • Cannon Lamb contributed to the Brevard scoring with 17 points and 4 rebounds.

What's Next

The William Peace University basketball team will be back in action on January 24 at 7:30 p.m. against conference rival, NC Wesleyan on the road. WPU holds a record of (4-12) and a conference record of (2-6). NC Wesleyan has a strong record of (8-6) and a conference record of (6-3). The Pacers look to snag back-to-back wins on the long road trip.
