Box Score 2 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA -- The William Peace University Softball team came up short to nationally ranked, Virginia Wesleyan College in both games of their doubleheader on Tuesday. The Marlins defeated the Pacers, 4-0 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game.
"I think Virginia Wesleyan is a legit world series type of team," Head Coach Charlie Dobbins described. "Their pitching is outstanding, defense flawless, and they hit the ball well.
Coming off of a full weekend of challenging contests, the Pacers were provided opportunities to grow in other areas. "We were a little banged up from the weekend, so some of the young pitchers got a chance to step up.
In game one Fr. Lilianna Berber got the start and had a great outing for the Pacers. She was able to go the distance and only gave up one earned earned against a high powered offense. The Pacers were hindered by three errors in the first game. Which the Marlins were able to capitalize on and pull away. The game was a close all throughout but the Pacers were not able to get the bats going against a very talented pitching staff. Final score was 4-0.
In game two, the Marlins got on top in the bottom of the third inning with 4 runs off a pair of William Peace throwing errors. This proved to be enough for the Marlins who, again with their talented pitching staff, were able to cool off the Pacer's bats and hold them to no runs. The final score of game two, 8-0.
The Pacers look forward to returning home this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders starting on Friday against Mary Baldwin College. First pitch will be at 1:30pm, followed by the second game with a scheduled start of 3:30pm. Originally scheduled for Sunday afternoon, this double header was moved due to the threat of inclement weather.
