RALEIGH, N.C. -- The William Peace University softball team took the field today in honor of breast cancer awareness. At the opening pitch there was a standing ovation for the motorcycles that rode by the field following the national anthem. The day began with the Pink Ribbon Riders motorcycle group parading onto the field, honorary first pitches thrown by Tara Sparks, Ginger Shields, and Head Coach Charlie Dobbins, and $800 raised by the Pretty in Pink Foundation.

On the diamond Pacer fans would have double the fun to cheer for as their Softball team took to hitting lights out early and often. The Pacers dominated 8-0 in game one and 8-5 in game two, against Wesleyan College on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The Pacers improve to 17-19 on the season.

In the first inning Heather McLean would start her day cracking a single deep to left field. Following after the play there would be a string of singles by Pacers and a wild pitch. Heading into the second the Pacers were up 3-0. After letting up zero hits in the second inning the Pacers came back with the bats fired up. Four hits were racked up by the Pacers in the second inning and the score heading into the third was 7-0. Pitching would start to come alive for Wesleyan College and a single hit by Jordan Mangum would be the only RBI let up the rest of the game. By the fifth inning the score was 8-0 and a run rule was called to end game one.

Though both teams had managed to keep it rather close as the game went into later innings, it looked to start that the Pacers would rout Wesleyan in similar fashion as game one.The Pacers let go one hit in the bottom of the first but would answer with three runs in the bottom of the second. A single by Shay Poteat, Ally Yoder and Madison Tucker would put the bases loaded when Lindsey Wiggins cracked a deep single to center field scoring Ally Yoder. Heather Mclean would be up to bat and strike another deep single in the same zone as Wiggins to bring home Jessica Mangum to make the score 3-0. After stern pitching from the Pacers in the fourth inning they would come with bats loaded once again and bring home four runs after notable doubles from both Courtney Barbour and Heather McLean. After the string of hits the score would be 7-0 heading into the fifth inning. With the run rule shadowing Wesleyan College the pressure began to mount. In the bottom of the fifth Wesleyan would bring home one and another four in the seventh but failed to come within tieing the Pacers by the end of the seventh. Final score 8-5.

The Pacers face NC Wesleyan in a double header Saturday at 1:00 p.m. In Raleigh, N.C.
