CARY, N.C. -- After two heart breaking losses on Saturday against Roanoke, William Peace is starting to show signs if hitting its' stride. A slow start against Eastern University in game one seemed to be a learning moment for the Pacers, as they bounced back to take game two, and improve their record to 6-9.
Game 1:
Eastern got off to a fast start against Pacer's starter
Chase Roupp, as they would score 5 runs in the first three innings. Eastern starting pitcher Ryan Kehr made sure that lead would hold, as he did not allow a Pacer to tack on a hit through those four innings.
Mikey Anerton broke through in the 5th inning with a single, but was stranded on base. The Pacers were able to tack on a couple of runs late, when
Alec Allred was hit by a pitch to start the 7th, and was later knocked in by a sacrifice fly from
Tyler Tilson.
Trey Hogan recorded his first RBI of the season, singling in
Alex Scott, but that would be the end of the scoring for Peace, as they would drop Game 1, 6-2.
Alex Scott,
Mikey Anerton, and
Trey Hogan each picked up a hit, and Hogan and Tilson drove in the only 2 runs for the Pacers.
Chase Roupp,
Jayce Stephenson, and
Luke Westmoreland combined to strike out 5 batters, and only walk one.
Game 2:
The Eagles of Eastern once again jumped out to an early lead, but a mix of great outings from the pitching staff, and an explosion of late offense gave the Pacers the win in Game 2.
Cameron High started off strong on the mound for Peace, breezing through the first 2 innings. Eastern jumped ahead 1-0 in the third, after a lead off triple, and a sacrifice fly. The Pacers would then hold the Eagles scoreless the rest of the game.
Cullen Cicotte began the offensive attack for Peace, earning himself a single, followed by a
Brian Willis Hit By Pitch.
Hunter Allen would take advantage of the momentum, coming up with a single through the left side of the infield scoring Cicotte. The offense did not stop there, as the Pacers would cross home plate twice in the 5th, after a 2 RBI single from
Kyle Cranmer.
Aaron George tacked on an RBI single in the 6th to push the Pacer lead to 3.
Luke Westmoreland entered the game in the top of the 7th, and would pick up his 4th save of the season to seal the deal for the Pacer's 6th win of the season.
Aaron George (1-3 RBI R),
Kyle Cranmer (1-3 2 RBI),
Hunter Allen (1-3 RBI), and
Tyler Klinedinst (2-3) led the Pacers offense.
Jayce Stephenson picked up his first win of the season on the mound after a three up, three down inning in the 5th.
The Pacers begin conference play against North Carolina Wesleyan this weekend at the North Main Athletic Complex in Holly Springs. The series will begin with a 9 inning double header on Saturday at 1:00pm.
