CARY, N.C. -- The William Peace softball team went 1-1 today against Messiah and Salem College at the Grand Slam Triangle Classic. The Pacers played a solid game against No. 3 Messiah and had a walk-off home run against Salem to overtake the Spirits, 6-5.
GAME ONE (Messiah)
The Pacers played a great game against the No. 3 team in the nation only allowing the Falcons six total hits in the game. The Pacers gave up two errors that allowed Messiah to score a few unearned runs in the third inning and the Pacers found themselves down four runs. William Peace couldn't get the bats going but did score a run in the ninth to finish the game, 4-1.
GAME TWO (Salem)
The Pacers and Spirits played an entertaining game that swung the momentum back and forth. The Spirits got on the board first with one run in the third inning. William Peace responded with back to back doubles in the third inning to tie the game at one. The Spirits came back the next inning with two runs. But the Pacers hit back again.

Lindsey Wiggins drilled a 3-run home run in the next at bat to put the Pacers up 5-3. An error in the sixth inning allowed the Spirits to tie the game at 5-5. The Pacers headed to the bottom of the seventh with the score unchanged.
Heather McLean came to bat with two outs and knocked a solo shot over the left field fence to give the Pacers a walk-off win, 6-5.
UP NEXT
The Pacers will conclude the Grand Slam Triangle Classic with two games tomorrow against Washington College and Salisbury University starting at 9 a.m.
