FERRUM, Va. -- The William Peace University women's basketball team held on to defeat N.C. Wesleyan, 66-60, on Saturday. The Pacers will face No. 1 seed Ferrum at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The Pacers and Bishops went 1-1 this year against each other, and the third game was just as close as the first two.
The Pacers found themselves behind for most of the game, but turned the corner and took the lead in the fourth quarter with eight minutes to go on a
Susannah Sykes three.
The Pacers pushed the lead out further before N.C. Wesleyan began to foul to try and force William Peace to drain free throws in which
Susannah Sykes and
Tyler Mercer each made two free throws to solidify the Pacers win in the conference tournament.
Tyler Mercer led the team with 18 points.
Mikayla Ray scored 16 and
Susannah Sykes added 12.
Whitney Walker grabbed 11 rebounds and
Hannah Ericksen recorded 10 rebounds in 19 minutes.
The Pacers will face No. 1 seed Ferrum at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the quarterfinals of the USA South Women's Basketball Tournament.
