LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. -- The William Peace University men's basketball fell to Covenant College, 84-82, in overtime. The tightly contested game came down to the final possession of the regular period with the ball in the Pacers' hands, but
Chris Thomas' shot didn't fall forcing the overtime period in which the Scots pulled ahead of the Pacers.
William Peace led for much of the game, and were up 11 with a little more than 10 minutes remaining in the half, but the Scots were able to come back in the two halves to force overtime and outlast the Pacers. Covenant stayed poised and sank free throws in the overtime period to unravel the Pacers bid for a comeback of their own.
Ryan Emfinger made a 3-pointer with four seconds left in overtime to cut the deficit to one, but too little time remained for the Pacers to get off a decent look after a foul and rebound on a missed free throw.
Thomas led the Pacers with 20 points and Emfinger,
Jalen Vince,
Jay Hicks and
John Burwell all scored in double figures.
