DANVILLE, VA – The William Peace University volleyball team was back in action Sunday afternoon, as the Pacers closed out the Cougar Classic with a 3-1 win against the Quakers of Guilford College followed by a 3-0 loss to the Roanoke College Maroons.
Carson Williams was named to the All-Tournament Team, racking up 83 digs over the weekend, which comes out to 5.93 digs per set. Williams ranks second in the USA South after the first week of the regular season with 5.47 digs per set and 104 total digs.
In their first match against Guilford (3-2), WPU came out with 25-22 and 25-20 wins in the opening two sets. The Quakers kept the match alive with a 25-22 win in the third, but the Pacers took care of business in the fourth by a score of 25-22.
Laura Bland and
Mya Parks both put up double-doubles in the win. Bland finished with 17 kills, 14 digs, two service aces and a block assist, while Parks had 10 kills, 19 digs, a block solo and a block assist.
Tempestt Frazier also notched double figure kills with 15, in addition to three block assists and a pair of digs.
Liana Solomon dished out 42 assists to go with seven digs, three kills and a service ace. Williams finished with 24 digs, five assists and a kill.
Casey Davis led the way for Guilford with 12 kills, 20 digs, and five service aces.
The Pacers (3-2) went down to the wire with a 28-26 opening set loss to Roanoke (3-1), but they ran out of gas after that, dropping the next two sets by scores of 25-13 and 25-12.
Parks tallied 11 kills, six digs and a service ace. Bland had nine kills, five digs and a block assist. Frazier chipped in with nine kills as well. Solomon finished with 22 assists, seven digs and a pair of assists, while Williams posted a team high 19 digs.
Alex Wolfe led the Roanoke attack with 13 kills. Kylah Blackmore had a double-double of 10 kills and 10 digs. Jessica Block had 33 assists, six digs and three service aces.
The WPU volleyball team is back in action next weekend at the Hermann Athletic Center, hosting Guilford College, Meredith College and Saint Augustine's University for a Saturday quad-match. The Pacers will square off against Guilford and Saint Augustine's that day starting at 10:00 a.m.
