Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Shields Scores Twice in Loss to Greensboro

CARY, NCDylan Shields scored a pair of second half goals but it wasn't enough, as the William Peace University men's soccer team fell to the preseason favorite Greensboro College Pride Thursday afternoon by a final score of 5-2.

Trailing 1-0 at the break after a goal from Carlos Barragan in the 32nd minute, Chris Deleon found Shields 15 minutes into the second half to tie things up.

Greensboro (3-3, 2-0 USAS) wasted no time answering though. Obi Collins took it down the field 24 seconds later to make it 2-1, and then Barragan scored his second goal of the game less than a minute after that with the help of Marlowe Lindsay.

Shields deposited his second goal of the game in the 64th, but the Pride added two more in the 74th and 84th minutes to put the game away.

"It was a tough game against one of the perennial powers in the conference, but given some of the circumstances there were plenty of positive moments to hold our heads up high about," said head coach Caleb Husmann. "We addressed the negatives and some tactical things that can clearly be fixed. All three of those late goals came because we were stretched and you have to stay compressed and organized defensively, but we'll work on that and bounce back Saturday"

The WPU men's soccer team is now 4-4-1 overall and 0-3  in the USA South. The Pacers are back in action at WakeMed Soccer Park this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. for a crucial conference matchup against Ferrum College.
