WPU Men's Soccer Gets Back on Track with 2-1 Victory over Emory & Henry

CARY, NC – Following a pair of tough losses this past weekend, the William Peace University men's soccer team got back on track Tuesday night with a 2-1 victory over Emory & Henry, handing the Wasps their first loss of the season.

The Pacers (4-3-1) struck first in the 19th minute on a long throw-in all the way into the box. After getting past the first line of defenders, Enrique Ochoa ran onto the ball and tucked it away for his fifth goal of the season.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Chris Deleon dialed up his seventh goal of the season in impressive fashion. After drawing a foul, Deleon caught the keeper cheating on the ensuing free kick and bent it around the wall into the goal from 25 yards out.

Emory & Henry (5-1) wouldn't go away, as Nathan Neisius played a ball over the top to Jordan Couch, who headed it past Christian Ortiz to make it 2-1 in the 74th.

Ortiz had the last laugh though, preserving the victory with a tremendous kick-save in the closing seconds.  It was one of seven saves for Ortiz on the night.

"It was an awesome game, and we came out well after kind of a rough weekend. I was super pleased to see the guys come out energized and really play our game," said head coach Caleb Husmann. "I thought we dominated play early on and played it through all the way to the end. We implemented a lot of things we've been working on practice, did what we were supposed to do to close the game and Ortiz came up huge at the end, so overall very pleased with the performance. It was an exciting one for sure."

The William Peace University men's soccer team is back at WakeMed Soccer Park for their USA South conference home opener against Greensboro College this Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
