Volleyball Sweeps USA South Opener at Ferrum

FERRUM, VA – The William Peace University volleyball team traveled to Ferrum College for their USA South conference opener Tuesday night, where the Pacers took care of the Panthers in three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-19 and 25-21.

"The intensity level gets cranked up once conference play starts, and I thought we responded well going into a tough road environment. They understood how important tonight was and how much every game in this new USA South schedule means," said head coach Kevin Daniels. "Our attack was efficient and we spread the ball out well.  We also located our serves much better tonight, which is something we've really been working on, so it was a good win for our program and Pacer Nation."

The Pacers (6-2, 1-0 USAS) posted a season high .309 hitting percentage with Laura Bland's 13 kills leading the way. Tempestt Frazier added 10 kills at a .471 clip along with a block assist, while Mya Parks finished with eight kills, four digs and a service ace. Lenorria Holmes turned in her best performance as a Pacer so far with six kills and a block solo.

Liana Solomon paced the WPU attack with 37 assists, six digs, three service aces, two kills and a block assist. Defensively, Carson Williams racked up 20 digs and dished out a pair of assists.

Jessica Turner and Cheyenne Strickland led the way for Ferrum (3-7, 0-1 USAS). Turner notched 11 kills, seven digs, a service ace and a block assist. Strickland tallied 24 assists, nine digs, six kills and two service aces.

The WPU volleyball team is back on the road this weekend at the St. Mary's College of Maryland Seahawk Invitational. The Pacers face St. Mary's and Medgar Evers College on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. They square off against Brooklyn College Saturday at noon followed by a non-conference match against Methodist University at 2:00 p.m.
