CARY, NC – Less than 24 hours after beating Sweet Briar, the William Peace University women's soccer team was back at WakeMed Soccer Park this afternoon against the Owls of Warren Wilson. The heat took a visible toll on the Pacers with limited recovery time following yesterday's match, as they ran out of gas down the stretch in a 3-1 loss.
After a scoreless first half, the action picked up on the other side of the break, starting with a pair of goals from India Little-Dula in the 53rd and 56th minutes.
Caylin Yarbrough found the back of the net for her first goal of the season, making it 2-1 in the 60th with help from
Kayla Bray, but Little-Dula capped off a hat trick in the 86th on a penalty kick to put the game away.
"It was a frustrating day for us, even though I thought we played well at times. We went down two goals, got a goal back, and I really thought we were the better team for large portions of the game," said head coach
Keith Jenkins. "Effort had nothing to do with the outcome, and playing in another 90 degree day with less than 24 hours of rest, our players responded well. Our backline continues to be the heart of team but we did generate more opportunities today, so we just have to build from there and go into the next game."
The WPU women's soccer team returns to WakeMed Soccer Park next Saturday, September 17 for their USA South conference opener against Meredith College at 2:00 p.m. The Pacers host Averett University the next day at 1:00 p.m.
