Men's Soccer Keeps Pacing with 3-0 Shutout against University of Valley Forge

PHOENIXVILLE, PA – The William Peace University men's soccer team continued their weekend road trip with a Sunday afternoon match against the University of Valley Forge, where the Pacers pitched their second shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory.

The Pacers were in control from the get go, possessing the ball virtually the entire match. WPU took 36 shots to only eight for the Patriots (2-3) and held a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.

Chris Deleon struck first less than five minutes into the game and added a second goal in the 67th minute, as Ja'Rod Randolph found him with the pass to put the Pacers ahead, 3-0. Enrique Ochoa was the other Pacer to score, finding the back of the net in the 58th minute.

Deleon currently leads the USA South in points (13) and goals (6), while Ochoa ranks second in both categories with nine points and four goals. Randolph ranks fifth in goals (3) and tied for second with a pair of assists. Randolph's eight points are tied for fourth most in the conference.

As a team, WPU (3-1-1) leads the USA South with 22 goals. Maryville and Piedmont are tied for second having scored 12 goals apiece.

"We're obviously very pleased with the win today and the way we've played the entire weekend," said head coach Caleb Husmann. "We did a great job executing everything we've been installing in practice, and especially yesterday, so it been awesome seeing all that work starting to pay dividends come game time. Honestly, we probably should have put a few more in, but this is a great way to head into conference play, where I think we really have a chance to do some big things if we just stick to playing our game."

The WPU men's soccer team is back on the road for their USA South conference opener against Piedmont College this Friday at 4:00 p.m. The Pacers turn around the next day, traveling to square off against Covenant College at 2:00 p.m.
