GREENSBORO, NC – The William Peace University baseball team traveled to Greensboro College Friday afternoon for their first of three games this weekend, where the Pacers fell by the final score of 9-3.
Greensboro jumped out to a 9-0 lead until WPU finally put three runs on the board in the ninth. The Pacers (10-23, 2-14 USAS) recorded 13 hits but left a season high 14 runners on base and committed three errors in the field, which led to multiple unearned runs.
Alex Scott went 2-for-4, drove in a pair with a two-run double and then scored on a
Nick Cole RBI single.
Derek Beale and
Will Cunningham added two hits apiece and both scored on Scott's double in the ninth.
Trey Hogan reached base three times with two hits and walk, while
Easton Payton also finished with two hits.
Mikey Anerton and Tyrus Bissett chipped in with one hit apiece.
Trevor Pence (2-5) started for the Pacers and was pinned with the loss, giving up six runs (five earned) on eight hits, two walks and three strikeouts in four innings.
Chase Roupp worked the next two frames followed by
Zach Geller in the seventh and
Mike Sgroi in the eighth.
Southpaw Adam Murry (2-5) went seven scoreless innings, allowed eight hits, walked three and struck out six in his second win of the season.
Three players for the Pride (7-26, 3-13 USAS) finished with three hits. Brian Robbett went 3-for-5, scored twice and drove in another. Bram Johnson and JP Lisk both went 3-for-4. Johnson scored two runs and Lisk drove in a pair.
The WPU baseball team closes out their season this Sunday with two more games at Greensboro starting at 12:00 p.m.
