Baseball's Season Comes to an End with Pair of One-Run Losses at Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – The William Peace University baseball team saw their season come to a close Sunday afternoon, traveling to take on Greensboro College for the final two games of their three-game set. The Pacers dropped game one, 7-6, followed by a 4-3 loss in game two. 
 
WPU finishes the regular season 10-25 overall with a 2-16 mark in the USA South. Greensboro ended up 9-27 overall with a 5-13 record in conference play.
 
Game One: Greensboro 7, William Peace 6
WPU took a 6-5 lead with three runs in the top of the seventh, but Greensboro tied the game in the eighth and won it in the ninth, as James Wilkins singled, stole second and scored on Zach Neumeister's walk-off single.
 
Derek Beale and Nick Cole both finished with two hits apiece. Cole also drove in a run in the second, while Beale scored a run in the seventh. Mikey Anerton scored on Cole's RBI single after drawing a walk, and he also added an RBI double in the seventh. Easton Payton added a hit, scored a run and drove in another. Tyler Klinedinst doubled and scored in the fourth. Alex Scott also added a hit in the fourth and came home to score.
 
Christian Neal (2-5) went eight-and-two-thirds in his final start as a Pacer. Neal gave up seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits, three walks and eight strikeouts.
 
Mitch Choros earned the win in relief, tossing scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth. Josh Evans started and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits, two walks and a pair of strikeouts in six innings of work.
 
James Wilkins set the table for Greeensboro at the top of the lineup, going 3-for-4 and scoring twice. Neumeister went 2-for-4, scored twice and plated J.P. Lisk with an RBI triple in the first. Braeden Jewitt also had two hits and two RBIs.
 
Game Two: Greensboro 4, William Peace 3
WPU struck first in the second, but Greensboro answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning thanks to Neumeister's three-run blast. Scott launched his second home run of the season, a two run shot in the sixth that made it a one-run ballgame, but the Pride held on to win, 4-3.
 
Klinedinst went 2-for-3 and was on base for Scott's blast. It was his second run of the game after Cole drove him home with an RBI single in the second. Payton contributed two hits as well.
 
Wes Dumford (4-13) was pinned with the loss in his last appearance as a Pacer, allowing three runs on four hits, two walks and six strikeouts in three innings of work. Chase Roupp tossed a scoreless inning in the fourth. Braxton Lamm held Greensboro to one run on two hits in the final four frames.
 
Dustin Minnick (5-9) started and picked up the win for the Pride. Minnick gave up three earned on eight hits, three walks and two strikeouts. Jeff Waring , Mason Sawicki and Edward Dorunda followed Minnick with a scoreless inning apiece.
