Guilford Gets past Pacers with 4-Run Seventh

GREENSBORO, NC – The William Peace University baseball team traveled to Guilford College on Wednesday, where the Pacers suffered their second loss of the season against the Quakers.

WPU (10-22) registered 13 hits but only had four runs to show for them with 13 runners left on base. It was a 3-2 game through six innings, but the Quakers (15-16) scored four in the seventh and went on to win, 8-4.

Tyrus Bissett led the Pacers offensively and was one of five players with multiple. Bissett went 3-for-3, drove home Tyler Klinedinst with an RBI single in the fifth and scored on Will Cunningham's two-run single in the ninth. Cunningham finished with three RBIs, plating Tyler Tilson with a sac fly in the fourth. Tilson notched two hits and was the other Pacer to score in the ninth. Klinedinst, Mikey Anerton, and Cullen Cicotte finished with two hits apiece.

Chase Roupp (1-3) was pinned with the loss, allowing two runs on three hits, a walk and two strikeouts in two innings of relief. Roupp was the first of four relievers to take the mound after Braxton Lamm started and gave up a run on one hit and three walks in the first two frames. Aron Crumb was the only Pacer pitcher to hold the Quakers scoreless, holding them to one hit in the fifth and sixth innings.

Chase Shuford (2-2) started and earned the win for Guilford, giving up two runs on eight hits, two walks and six strikeouts.  Nick Blackwood tossed the final two innings and gave up a pair in the ninth.

It was a well-balanced attacked for Guilford with nine different Quakers recording a hit. Jacob Roberts and Chuck Noble both went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run. Nathan Fulbright went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

WPU closes out the season with a three-game series against USA South opponent Greensboro College. The Pacers take on the Pride Friday at 3:00 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Sunday starting at noon.
