ROCKY MOUNT, NC – The William Peace University baseball team dropped their series finale against North Carolina Wesleyan Sunday afternoon, 8-2.
NC Wesleyan scored six runs in the bottom of the second. The Pacers (7-10, 0-3 USAS) made it 6-2 plating a pair in the fifth, but the Battling Bishops put the game away with four in the bottom half of the inning.
Alex Scott went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk, while
Trevor Nanney also went 2-for-3 and scored a run in the fifth. Six other Pacers chipped in with one hit apiece.
Christian Neal (1-1) was pinned with the loss, giving up nine run on five hits, four walks and six strikeouts in four innings of work.
Aron Crumb tossed the next two innings followed by an inning apiece from
Mike Sgroi and
Kyle Vincent.
Hunter Cannon paced the Wesleyan offense going 3-for-4 with a run scored and two RBIs. James Lovett added a three-run homer and scored twice.
Richard Harrell (2-1) earned the win for the Bishops (13-5, 5-1 USAS), allowing two runs on seven hits and a strikeout in five innings pitched. Robert Mondoux held the Pacers to a run on three hits and five strikeouts in the final four frames.
The WPU baseball team will be back in action this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. against Saint Augustine's University at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
