RALEIGH, NC – The William Peace University softball team extended their win streak to five games with a pair of wins over Greensboro College Saturday afternoon.
Morgan Farmer no-hit the Pride in game one, as the Pacers took game one, 9-0, followed by a 10-6 win in game two.
Game One: William Peace 9, Greensboro 0 (5 innings)Farmer (9-1) held Greensboro hitless and struck out eight in her seventh complete game effort this season. Farmer leads the USA South in wins and ranks second in strikeouts (48).
Caroline Womble finished the game 3-for-3 and scored three times.
Heather McLean went 2-for-3, scored once and drove in three.
Lindsey Wiggins added two hits, two runs and an RBI. She hit her sixth home run of the year to lead off the first.
Shay Poteat and
Morgan Bryant both contributed a hit and two RBIs apiece.
Dawn Harris (4-4) was pinned with the loss for Greensboro, giving up nine runs on 10 hits.
Game Two: William Peace 10, Greensboro 6The Pacers (15-5, 5-1 USAS) broke out for seven runs in the bottom of the third, capping off a sweep with a 10-6 win in game two
Brittany Propri went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored, highlighted by her conference leading eighth homer of the year. Farmer also went 3-for-4 and scored a run, while
Morgan Bryant added two hits and three driven in with her third bomb of the season.
Womble added two more hits, scored twice and drove in a run. Wiggins also chipped in with a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Wiggins ranks first in the conference with a .531 batting average after Saturday. Womble's .470 clip is good for fifth in the league. In addition, Propri and Womble are 1-2-3 in the USA South with 30, 27 and 25 runs scored, respectively.
Kelsey Durham (4-4) earned the win, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and three strikeouts. Farmer entered the game in the seventh with the tying run on deck to earn the save.
Maddy Wetherholt (7-3) was tacked with the loss for Greensboro (11-7, 0-2 USAS), allowing 10 runs on 13 hits in six innings of work.
Allyson Yeager and Sarah Tompkins both went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Madison Crisco went 3-for-3 and came around to score once.
The WPU softball team will be back at home this Tuesday for a doubleheader against Randolph College starting at 2:30 p.m.
