Softball Splits Two with Randolph

RALEIGH, NC – The WPU softball team hosted Randolph College Tuesday afternoon, where the Pacers erased an early deficit to come back and win game one, 7-6, before dropping game two, 10-3.

Game One: William Peace 7, Randolph 6
Randolph scored four in the first and another in the second for a 5-0 lead, until WPU hung a five-spot in the bottom of the second to tie the game. The Pacers scored two in the sixth and hung on to win, 7-6.
 
Morgan Farmer (10-1) went the distance, becoming the USA South's first pitcher to 10 wins the year. It was Farmer's eighth complete game of the spring, as she overcame some early control problem to give up six runs on 10 hits, five walks and four strikeouts.
 
Lindsey Coley finished with two hits, scored twice and drove in another. Caroline Womble and Brittany Propri added one hit and two RBIs apiece. Farmer also chipped in with a hit.
 
Gracyn Allen-Ingle (3-2) was pinned with the loss, allowing only one earned run on five hits, three walks and a strikeout in five innings of work.
 
Rebecca Montgomery had a 3-for-3 outing with two RBIs and a run scored to lead the way offensively for Randolph. Dianne Davis went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
 
Game Two: Randolph 10, William Peace 3
The Pacers (16-6) scored a run in each of the first three innings, but Randolph (12-6) pulled ahead for good with a six-run top of the fifth on their way to a 10-3 win.
 
Propri was the only Pacer with multiple hits. She went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored thanks to her nation-leading ninth home run of the year in the first inning.
 
Kelsey Durham (4-5) started in the circle and was tacked with the loss. Durham gave up 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, a walk and give strikeouts in seven innings.
 
Lindsey Chaney (5-1) picked up the win with a complete game effort, surrendering three runs on seven hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.
 
Rachel Hickman finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs thanks to a three-run homer in the fifth.
 
The WPU softball team hits the road for a pair of conference doubleheaders this weekend. The Pacers travel to LaGrange on Saturday and turn around Sunday for a pair against Huntingdon.
