LAGRANGE, GA – The William Peace University men's basketball team found themselves in another wild one Sunday afternoon against LaGrange. It took two overtime periods to decide a winner after
Terry Rogers hit a buzzer-beating three at the end of regulation to tie the game, but the Panthers had a buzzer-beater of their own that put them over the top, 105-103.
Rogers scored a career high 20 points, 11 of which came in in the final four minutes of regulation, as he fueled a 19-6 run that erased a 13-point (79-66) deficit. He also grabbed a career high seven rebounds, dished out five assists and chipped in with some heroics at the end of the second half.
Rogers drained one from well beyond the arc to make it 83-82 with about 20 second to go. WPU looked dead in the water after LaGrange managed to play keep-away for over 15 seconds until the officials blew the whistle they swallowed. Justyn Olson hit a pair of free-throws to put the Panthers up three with just less than five seconds left, but Rogers raced the length of the court on the ensuing inbounds and found the bottom of the net, pulling up from the top of the key as time expired.
WPU looked strong in the early going, shooting 8-of-16 (50%) from the field and 4-of-8 (50%) from the bonusphere for an eight point lead (22-14) midway through the first half. The Pacers led by seven (32-25) with 5:46 left on the clock, but they missed seven of their next eight shots and turned it over five times, opening the door for LaGrange, who went into the break up by eight (44-35) after closing out the half on a 19-3 run.
LaGrange outscored WPU, 54-34, from the 5:46 mark in the first half to the 4:05 mark in the second. They shot better than 50% from the field, made seven of their 16 three-point attempts and went a perfect 9-of-9 from the stripe during that span. They went 5-of-11 (45%) from the line during the final 3:51 of regulation. The Pacers went 5-of-8 (62.5%) from the field and converted all seven of their free-throw attempts during the final 3:51.
There were six ties and eight lead changes over the next 10 minutes with each team leading by as many as three. Mark Wagner's three-point attempt in the closing seconds of double-OT bricked off the back iron.
Ryan Emfinger leaped to grab the rebound, but a Panther came crashing into him, conveniently deflecting the ball right into Olson's lap for the game-winner.
It was the fourth overtime game the Pacers have played in this season and the second in their last three games. They fall to 9-13 overall with a 4-7 mark in the USA South but still control their own destiny into postseason play with three games remaining. LaGrange moves one step closer to securing a spot into the conference tournament, improving to 15-6 overall and 6-4 in league play.
It's the second time in program history the Pacers have hit the century mark and their first-ever 100-point game in conference play.  It's also the first time they've scored 100 on the road and the highest scoring affair they've ever played in. The Pacers scored 107 in a 33-point win against Mid-Atlantic Christian back in 2013-14.
Five other Pacers finished in double figures in addition to Rogers.
Sam Johnson scored 19 points along with four rebounds, two assists, a block and two steals. Emfinger made a career high five triples, helping him to 18 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Chris Thomas has reached double figures in all but three games this season. He recorded 17 points, eight boards, two assists and a block.
Dakota King added 11 points, six rebounds and a steal.
Kori Anderson contributed 10 points, four rebounds, a block and a steal.
Olson and Alex Bonner led the way for LaGrange. Bonner posted a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds, while Olson scored 22 points to go with eight rebounds and five assists.
