CARY, NC – The William Peace University Baseball team struggled to find its offense Saturday afternoon at the USA Baseball National Training Complex against Roanoke College. The Pacers dropped game one, 4-1, followed by a 4-3 loss in game two that went to extras.
Game One: William Peace 1, Roanoke College 4 Three Peace batters had multiple hits in the game, however, the Pacers only managed to score one run. Both
Easton Payton and
Cullen Cicotte finished with two hits apiece, while catcher
Nick Cole ended the game going 3-for-4 with the lone RBI.
Maroons starting pitcher Harrison Richards (1-0) picked up the win throwing six frames and striking out six. Despite an impressive eight-inning outing by Pacers starter
Trevor Pence (0-2) he was tabbed with the loss allowing four earned runs and striking out 12 Roanoke batters.
The Pacers cut the lead in half in the sixth inning, but the Maroons' offense woke up in the eighth adding two more insurance runs to seal the win.
Game Two: William Peace 3, Roanoke College 4 (F/8) After both teams went scoreless in innings two through six, Roanoke to the late 3-1 lead in the seventh. The Pacers would not go away, as a
Nick Cole double to left field and a
Trevor Nanney sacrifice fly, tied the game up at 3-3 to force extra innings. The Maroons played small ball to get their leadoff hitter over to third. A slow roller to the pitcher scored the game winning run and sealed the second win for Roanoke College.
The Maroons relief pitcher Craig Kiley (1-0) picked up the win throwing the final inning and two thirds. Pacers reliever
Wes Dumford (0-1) was tagged with the loss giving up one run and striking out three, through an inning and a third of work.

Mikey Anerton and first baseman
Cullen Cicotte finished with a run and two hits apiece.
The Pacers are back on the field tomorrow Sunday, February 21 hosting Castleton University at the N. Main Athletic Complex in Holly Springs starting at 11:00 a.m.
