CARY, NC – The William Peace University baseball team got back to its winning ways at the USA Baseball National Training Complex Wednesday afternoon, defeating Maine Presque Isle in both games of the mid-week doubleheader. The Pacers handled the Owls in game one, 6-0, and followed it up with a walk-off double in game two for the 3-2 victory in extra innings.
Game One: William Peace 6, Maine Presque Isle 0The Pacers used five different pitchers to complete the shutout against the Owls. Peace reliever
Chase Roupp (1-0) picked up the win throwing one inning, while striking out the side. MPI starting pitcher Andrew Bartlett (0-1) was tabbed with the loss going five innings, while giving up six runs on seven hits.
The Pacers brought their offense in the fourth inning scoring their first run of the game off of a
Will Cunningham triple down the right field line.
Tyler Tilson followed the triple up with a single of his own to bring Cunningham home. William Peace went on to add three insurance runs in the fifth frame and another in the sixth.
Cunningham was the only Pacer with multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
Game Two: William Peace 3, Maine Presque Isle 2 (F/8)The Pacers needed their first walk-off of the season and extra innings to finish off the Owls in game two. After allowing two runs in the second, Peace crawled back to tie the game at two going into extra innings. With two outs and

Easton Payton smacked the game winning double into center field, which brought pandemonium in the Pacers dugout. Payton finished the game going 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.
Third baseman and relief pitcher
Alex Scott (1-0) picked up the win for Peace throwing the final two innings, allowing no runs with two strikeouts. Scott also finished 2-for-4 at the plate.
Maine Presque Isle reliever Tyler McLaughlin (0-1) came up with the loss, after giving up the lone run in extra innings, while throwing two thirds of an inning.
The Pacers hit the field this Saturday, February 20 hosting Roanoke College for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
