FERRUM, VA – The William Peace University women's basketball team's struggles continued Wednesday night with a lopsided loss against Ferrum College.
The Pacers (6-16, 0-13 USAS) trailed 28-8 by the end of the first quarter after Ferrum came out scorching the nets at a 72% clip (13-of-18). The Panthers (11-11, 9-4 USAS) led by as many as 47 points in the fourth quarter and went on to win, 85-39.
WPU finished the game shooting 15-of-50 (30%) from the field and 3-of-10 (30%) from three-point land. The Panthers poured it on the entire game, shooting a season best 54.8% (34-of-62) from the field, which included an 11-of-24 (45.8%) outing from beyond the arc. It was also the highest point output for Ferrum all season.
Not a single Pacer reached double figures.
Susannah Sykes was the closest with nine points, an assist and a steal.
Tamara Murphy added eight points, four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
Cassidy Clark posted six points, seven boards, four assists and a pair of steals.
12 of the 13 players that logged minutes for the Panthers scored at least four points. Zarkia Mattox led the way with 17 points, nine rebounds, four assists, a block and four steals.
The WPU women's basketball team closes the season with three straight at the Hermann Athletic Center. The Pacers host Meredith this Saturday followed by Mary Baldwin on Sunday. Both games are slated to tip off at 2:00 p.m.
