CARY, NC – The William Peace University men's soccer team returned to WakeMed Soccer Park on Sunday, where the Pacers bounced back after a tough loss yesterday, battling LaGrange to a 1-1 draw in double-overtime.
After outshooting LaGrange 7-1 in a scoreless first half, the Pacers (3-6-1, 1-2-1 USAS) broke through in the 52nd minute when
Junior Ayala found
Tanielu Riley for his third goal of the season. The Panthers (3-6-1, 1-2-1 USAS) wasted no time answering though, as Matthew Fritts found Qua Tucker for the equalizer two minutes later.
WPU finished the game with 13 shots, nine of which were on target, and eight corner kicks. Riley put a pair of shots on goal during the overtime periods but couldn't find the back of the net.
"The men took some responsibility for themselves and really picked each other up today," said head coach
Caleb Husmann. "We played much, much better in the first half. We lagged off for about 20 minutes in the second half which cost us, but on the flipside we generated a lot of goal scoring opportunities today, so overall a positive after a really tough one yesterday to bounce back."
The WPU men's soccer team is back in action this Wednesday at 2:00 p.m., hitting the road for the first time two weeks to face Methodist.
