WPU Men's Soccer Outmatched vs Maryville

CARY, NC – The William Peace University men's soccer team was back at WakeMed Soccer Park on Monday, where the Pacers were downed by the Scots of Maryville College.

WPU (1-9, 1-3 USAS) fell behind 3-0 by halftime, thanks to a pair of Maryville goals in the 25th and 26th minutes, but the Pacers came out on the other side of the break looking to make a comeback.

In the 51st minute, Dylan Shields found Enrique Ochoa for his second goal of the season, making it a 3-1 game. It was also Shields' second assist of the year. Maryville (7-1-1, 2-0-1 USAS) stymied any comeback hopes a few minutes later though, scoring in the 56th and 59th minutes.  The Scots went on to net four unanswered goals in the second half on their way to a 7-1 win.

Despite the lopsided results, WPU did have several good looks at the goal. The Pacers got 13 shots off, eight of which were on target. Ochoa took five shots with four on target, while two of Shields' four shots were on frame. Isaac Kruger got three shots off, two of which were on goal. WPU also totaled five corner kicks but were unable to capitalize on any of them.

The WPU men's soccer team plays again this Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 8:15 p.m., as they travel to face Ferrum College. LIVE STATS will be available for the contest, which will be played at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Virginia.
