Men's Soccer Unable to Convert vs Piedmont

RALEIGH, NC – Mother-nature was anything but cooperative on Friday, but the William Peace University men's soccer team was back in action, hosting the Lions of Piedmont College away from home at the WRAL Soccer Complex in north Raleigh.

While the Pacers (1-8, 1-2 USAS) seemed to control the greater part of the match, they weren't able to net one of their 13 shots and went on to lose, 1-0. WPU took seven more corner kicks than Piedmont (11-4), but it was the Lions who broke through in the 84th minute on Matthew Metzger's corner. Nathan Metzger collected it on the far post and snuck it through traffic for the game winner.

"I thought we were the better team out on the field today," said head coach Caleb Husmann. "We generated several more scoring opportunities, but they put one away and we didn't."

Dylan Shields took four of the Pacers' 13 shots and put three of them on target.  Enrique Ochoa and Matt Comienski took three shots apiece, while Chris Deleon added two more.

The WPU men's soccer team returns to WakeMed Soccer Park this Monday, Sept. 28 at 4:30 p.m., as they take on Maryville College ? The match, originally slated for Saturday, was rescheduled due to the inclement weather.
