FULL GAME REPLAYRALEIGH, NC - The William Peace volleyball team opened the regular season Wednesday night at the Hermann Athletic Center, as the Pacers raced past the Mustangs of Mid-Atlantic Christian University in three sets: 25-7, 25-7, 25-12.
WPU racked up 13 kills at a .435 clip in the first set, and closed it out on a 20-2 run after MACU evened things up at five. The Pacers closed each of the first two sets on 9-0 runs and combined for a 17-0 run after they jumped ahead, 8-0, to start the second set. WPU took care of business in the third, closing the Mustangs out, 25-12.
The Pacers used a balance attack with four different players recording a game high five kills apiece, including
Connor Davis,
Liana Solomon,
Tempestt Frazier, and
Lindsay Alford. Primarily used as a setter, Solomon also added seven assists and four digs.
WPU controlled the service line with 19 aces, which is the most they have recorded since 2012 and nine more than their season high last year. In only two sets,
Carson Williams recorded a career high six aces to go along with a game high nine digs. Freshman Kennedy Paine tallied four aces in her collegiate debut. Paine also registered a game high 15 assists, while
Maddie Irvin also chipped in with four service aces and six digs.
The WPU volleyball team returns to action this weekend, traveling to Danville, Virginia for Averett University's annual Cougar Classic. The Pacers will play four games over the course of the wekeend, starting things off Saturday at noon against Roanoke.
