Pacers Drop Game Three to Piedmont, 7-2

CARY, NC – After taking the first two games of the three-game series for their first series victory in program history, the William Peace Baseball Team fell to Piedmont in the series finale Sunday.

WPU only trailed, 2-1, after six innings, but Piedmont scored four runs in the seventh to jump ahead, 6-1. Coleman Greene (0-6) got the start and pitched well, but he was pinned with the loss, giving up two runs on five hits in six innings of work.

The Pacers threatened in the bottom half of the seventh but only managed to push one run across. Matt Proctor walked, Trey Hathaway singled and Tyler Klinedinst was plunked, loading the bases with no outs. Christian Neal drew an RBI walk to plate Proctor, but WPU's rally came to a halt and the Lions added one more in the ninth for the 7-2 win.

JT Howington led WPU at the plate. He went 2-for-4 and scored the Pacers' run in the fourth on a passed ball after moving up to third on Jacob Ennis' double and lone hit on the day. Proctor and Hunter Allen also chipped in with one hit apiece.

Max Oberkofler (4-2) picked up the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits, three walks and two strikeouts in six innings pitched.  The Top four batters in the lineup did the majority of the damage, combining to go 9-for-19 (.474) with six RBIs and five runs scored.

The WPU Baseball Team plays one more time this season at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. The Pacers host Guilford College Friday, April 17 at 4:00 p.m.  Head coach Chris Duty and the rest of the team will also honor their first-ever senior class, which includes Josh Clark and JT Howington.

WPU will close the season out the next day, traveling for a doubleheader at Guilford. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
