William Peace Baseball Drops Opening Two vs. Maryville

CARY, NC – The William Peace Baseball Team collected a season high 12 hits in game one of their doubleheader against Maryville Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough, as the Scots held on to win, 9-7. The Pacers came out flat in game two and Maryville rolled easily, 13-2.

Game One: Maryville 9, William Peace 7

Starting pitcher Wes Dumford was a strike away from a 1-2-3 top of the first, until Nick Dean roped a triple to left center and came home to score on Zach Blonder's blooper to right for an early 1-0 Maryville lead.

The Scots added three more in the third. Logan Jenkins beat out an infield single and scored on another RBI single from Blonder. Maryville loaded the bases with two outs and plated two more on a single through the left side.

Maryville went up 6-0 in the fourth after a pair of unearned runs, but WPU got two back in the bottom half of the inning after loading the bases.  Jacob Ennis and Tyler Klinedinst both scored on Nick Cole's base knock the other way. Ennis walked to reach base and Klinedinst singled up the middle.

WPU allowed two more in the top of the sixth, but Ennis, Klinedinst and Josh Clark each singled to start things off for the Pacers in the bottom half of the inning. Chase Roupp drew a walk to score Ennis. Klinedinst scored on an ensuing double-play to make it, 8-4.

The Pacers scored three more in the bottom of the eighth, as Klinedist singled and Clark doubled to lead things off. Roupp brought both of them home with a chopper over the third baseman into left, and then Trey Hogan came through with a two out hit up the middle to score Roupp.
