ROANOKE, VA – William Peace committed a costly error in the bottom of the eight, opening the door for Roanoke, as the Maroons broke a 2-2 tie and held on for the win.
Chase Roupp (0-2) turned in a winning performance but was pinned with the loss, surrendering only two earned runs on five hits, a walk and four strikeouts in 7.1 innings pitched.
Roupp struck out the first batter of the eighth before Will Black reached base on an errant throw from shortstop. Black stole second and scored Brian Kluge's base hit through the right side.
The Pacers (1-19) left the bases loaded in the fourth inning, but they tied the game at two after loading them up again in the fifth.
Trevor Nanny led the inning off with one of his two hits on the day and came home on Trey Hathaway's single through the left side. Greg Chauvin grounded into a 6-4-3 double play but plated Nick Cole in the process after he walked earlier in the inning.
Christian Neal reached twice with a hit and a walk, while Braxton Lamm, Jacob Ennis and Travis Arthur chipped in with one hit apiece.
Chad Hill (1-0) tossed the eighth and ninth innings for Roanoke (6-6) to earn the win. Luge led the Maroons at the plate with two hits, two RBI and a run scored.
WPU will be back in action this weekend, traveling to Huntingdon for a weekend conference series.
