Pacers Plagued by Errors in Series Finale vs. Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The WPU Baseball Team jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in Monday's series finale at Methodist, as Trey Hathaway walked to lead off the game and eventually scored on Jacob Ennis' RBI single, but it was all downhill from there.

WPU (1-15, 1-13 USAS) should have escaped the fourth inning unscathed, but an error kept the inning alive and Methodist took advantage, scoring three runs for a 5-1 lead.

Greg Chauvin singled and scored in the fifth after Nick Cole drove him in with a single through the right side, but the Monarchs (13-7, 7-5 USAS) exploded for 11 runs in the bottom half of the inning and went on to win, 16-2.

The Pacers committed more errors (5) than they had hits (4), which is never a recipe for success.  Coleman Greene (0-4) started on the mound and was pinned with the loss. He allowed 16 runs in five innings of work, but only six of them were earned.

Michael Inman (2-1) picked up the win for Methodist, giving up one run on two hits and five strike outs in three innings of relief. Ray Lanners went 2-for-3 with 5 RBI and 3 runs scored thanks to a fifth inning grand salami.

The WPU Baseball Team is back home this weekend for a three-game series against LaGrange. They will play a Saturday doubleheader followed by the series finale on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. both days.
