FERRUM, VA – The William Peace baseball team dropped both games of a double-header on Saturday to Ferrum. The Pacers fell in game one, 22-1, followed by a 16-7 loss in game two.
Game One: Ferrum 22, William Peace 1
WPU was out-hit, 15-7, allowing nine unearned runs on five errors, and surrendering seven walks. Ferrum scored 11 runs in the sixth inning on their way to a win in seven innings.
Christian Neal (0-1) was pinned with the loss, giving up nine runs (four earned) on nine hits, two walks and four strikeouts in four innings of work. Travis Arthur and Matt Proctor both singled with one out in the seventh. Hunter Allen followed with a single to plate Arthur.
Dillon Weaver allowed three hits and struck out six in six innings of work for the win. Kyle Hall led the Panthers offensively, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and four runs scored.
Game Two: Ferrum 16, William Peace 7
The Pacers scored six runs in the fourth, but Ferrum had already built a 14-0 lead after the first three innings, including a six-run inning of their own in the first.
Hunter Allen, Travis Arthur, JT Howington and Braxton all doubled and scored in the fourth. Proctor and Allen added RBI singles as well.
Arthur and Allen both finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate. Arthur drove in a run and scored two, while Allen added an RBI and a run scored. Aron Crumb (0-2) got the start and was tacked with the loss.
Manny Torres earned the win in relief, giving up one run in 1.1 innings of work. Ty Comer paced the Panther's lineup, going 4-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored.
WPU Baseball will be back at home for a weekend series against NC Wesleyan with single games Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday's game will start at 1:00 p.m., while games over the weekend get underway at 1:00 p.m.
