FERRUM, VA – The William Peace women's basketball team got off to a quick start Sunday afternoon, but Ferrum turned it on in the second half for a 77-49 win.
The Pacers went up by seven (11-4) early on and held on to a four point (20-16) lead after Krystal Williams hit her second three-pointer of the game with 12:41 left in the first. WPU went on a 10 minute scoring drought though, and Ferrum used a 15-0 run to go into the break up seven (33-26).
WPU cut their deficit to three (37-34), as Williams found Dejah Cheathem for a triple at the 17:08 mark, but the Panthers exploded for an 18-0 run to put the Pacers away.
The Pacers made a season high 10 shots from beyond the arc, but they only went 18-71 (25.4%) from the field and only managed four free-throw attempts all game. Ferrum finished the game shooting 58.5% (31-of-53), including an 8-of-13 (61.5%) day from long-distance. The Panthers went 16-of-25 (64%) and 6-of-8 from the bonushphere in the second half.
Ka'la Jordan scored a team high 13 points with two rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Brittany Boykin added 12 points, two rebounds, and an assist and a steal. Williams had nine points three rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Derrica Jones scored eight points to go along with eight rebounds, two steals, and a blocked shot.
For Ferrum, Zarkia Mattox led the way with a game high 26 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a blocked shot. Jacole Hairston had added 22 points, four rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
WPU will be back come home next weekend for a pair of North Division games against Greensboro on Saturday and Averett on Sunday.
